Lobby Day is your opportunity to advocate for the profession of physical therapy and amplify your voice at the state level. The more informed you are, the more impactful your conversations with legislators will be. Use the sections below to familiarize yourself with the legislative structure, committee assignments, key legislation, and supporting resources.
PATIENT ACCESS/CO-PAY LEGISLATION:Provides that no policy of group accident, group health or group accident and health shall impose copayments for physical or occupational therapy greater than the copay for similar services provided by a physician.
PTA SUPERVISION LEGISLATION:Provides that supervision by a licensed physical therapist of a physical therapist assistant shall be continuous but shall not require the physical presence of the licensed physical therapist at the time and place where services are being performed; requires a licensed physical therapist to be available for consultation with the physical therapist assistant or the patient within a reasonable amount of time.
DIRECT ACCESS LEGISLATION:Removes limits on the duration of treatment by a licensed physical therapist when a patient does not have a referral.
