Greater New York District Meeting, Elections & CE Event "A Reciprocal Clinical Mentorship Model: Fostering Mentee Success through Effective Mentor Behavior" Thursday, May 15, 2025: 7:00pm - 9:15pm
Reciprocal Determinism is a social-cognitive learning theory that outlines the relationship between the person, the environment, and behavior change. Mentors within a clinical setting serve as a key component of the environmental influence on mentees. By reinforcing mentees through instillation of expectations, use of observational learning, and deliverance of effective feedback, mentors can positively influence behavior change. Conversely, mentors who fail to embody effective mentor behaviors can have a deleterious effect on learning. Simply put, the behavior of mentors has a direct and impactful relationship on mentees. This program will provide those engaged in clinical mentorship within a rehabilitation setting with practical strategies to guide mentor actions and optimize the mentor-mentee relationship using evidence-based principles. Case-based examples will be used to help mentors learn how to build trust, model best practices, ask effective questions, deliver feedback, empower mentees, and foster self-reflective behaviors.
