THE PTA COMMITTEE
APTA PTA COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE Description APTA PTA Council is a national community of component volunteers tasked to promote member engagement in the association. Each APTA chapter and section or academy selects one representative to the council, for a total of up to 69 council members. Council representatives will also be eligible to run for leadership roles within the Council.
At APTA New York’s 2024 Delegate Assembly, on June 1st 2024, one PTA Council Representative and one Alternate Representative will be elected to serve a 2-year term beginning after the APTA House of Delegates in July 2024.
Our Chapter is seeking nominations for PTA members in good standing for both the PTA Council Representative position and the PTA Council Alternate Representative position. PTA members may self-nominate for these positions. As per Chapter Bylaws, the qualifications of the Representative and Alternate Representative shall be as stated in the Association Board policies and procedures. Responsibilities of PTA Council Representative - To attend all meetings of the PTA Council and fulfill all responsibilities as determined by the Association Board of Directors
- Engage members across the association, increasing member value.
- Collaborate with other council representatives to highlight best practices and empower success.
- Meet at least quarterly as a council.
- Select delegates to the House of Delegates.
- Select council steering group and chair through annual elections process.
- Participate in council activities at the APTA Leadership Congress.
- Implement council initiatives at the component level
- To present to the PTA Council such matters as are directed by the Chapter Board or the Delegate Assembly
- To serve on the Chapter Board of Directors as a non-voting member of the Board
Responsibilities of PTA Council Alternate Representative - To fulfill any of the duties outlined above only if the PTA Council Representative is unable

Ways for PTAs to get more involved with the APTA and NYPTA Despite an increase in membership numbers, there is still a lack of PTA involvement, especially at the chapter level. - Get Involved! Talk with fellow PTs and PTAs, get a group together and attend your district meetings.
- If you have a fellow colleague that is not yet a member, bring them to a meeting and let them see what it is all about (please make sure to check with the district president that guests are welcome).
- Check out what volunteer opportunities are available with the APTA (http://www.apta.org/VolunteerGroups/) and fill out thevolunteer interest profile. Also be sure to fill out the profile on the NYPTA site as well (http://nypta.site-ym.com/Login.aspx) so that you will be in the pool for local opportunities!
- Physical Therapy Month is coming up in October, so volunteer in your community for the PT Day of Service on October 15, 2016! There are several ways to get involved; just visit the web site, http://ptdayofservice.com/, and take the pledge! Become an Ambassador for your community, spread the word and get your fellow PT’s and PTA’s involved!
- Don’t forget to join the Facebook group, PTAS of NYPTA (https://www.facebook.com/groups/PTAsofNYPTA/)! This is a closed group for discussions, questions, comments, or whatever you feel the need to get off your chest regarding the PTA profession!
