How long have you been a member of APTA New York?

I've been a member for 10 years.

What brought you to PT? Share your journey with us.

It was serendipitous. I didn't know what I wanted to study in college, but I knew that I wanted a program with a clear direction so I applied and was accepted into 6 year PT Programs. Luckily for me I fell in love with PT during PT school.

What is a typical day like for you?

I treat 4-5 patients (approximately 5.5 hours of patient care hours) in an inpatient rehabilitation facility. I mentor other therapists as well, then unwind at home with my dog and husband.

What was the exact moment you decided to join the PT profession?

When I decided to go into a 6 year PT Program for undergraduate school.

What would you tell your student self about the profession?

Graduating school is just the beginning of your learning. The real education begins when you are in the position to teach others.

What is the biggest challenges of your profession?

Having enough time for mentorship opportunities.

What is the most rewarding part of your profession?

Being able to spend time with my patients doing what matters to them- whether that be yoga, bowling, or walking while holding their partner's hand.

What’s the most important trend you see in the industry?

Learning how knowledge translates into practice.

Who is one of your role models and why?

My mother. She immigrated with and raised 3 kids here without speaking the language. She taught me so much about resilience, patience, and compassion. Without her behind my sails, I would not have made it through PT school. She was the one who convinced me to continue when I contemplated dropping out after my father's sudden passing.

What are 3 fun facts about you?

1. I spent 4 wonderful days hiking the Inca Trail, and one day before that hiking Rainbow Mountain at 16,000 elevation.

2. I just ran my second half marathon in May (the last one was 3 years ago) during a crazy heat wave in NYC.

3. My own PT was the one who helped me get through both of the above activities after having my own hip pain!

What do you love most about being part of APTA New York?

The live CEU Events!

What would you tell someone who is interested in joining APTA New York?

Absolutely go for it. They are your advocating body and helps you get great CEUs!
